What we collect

  • Resident reports: location (the pin you set), category, optional photos, optional description, and any phone/email you choose to provide.
  • Alert sign-ups: the phone number or email you opt in with for community alerts.
  • Agency accounts: name, work email, and role for government users.
  • Basic technical data: standard server logs needed to run and secure the service.

How we use it

To deliver reports to the correct jurisdiction, power the map and incident tools, send alerts you opted into, operate billing, and keep the service secure. Resident reporting needs no account and no login.

Who sees report data

A report is shared with the government Agency for the jurisdiction it was submitted to. Counties/states with that jurisdiction beneath them may also see it (local keeps control). We do not sell your personal information.

Text messages (SMS)

Community alerts are opt-in. Message and data rates may apply; reply STOPto unsubscribe at any time and HELPfor help. We don’t share mobile opt-in data with third parties for their own marketing.

Photos & location

Photos and the location pin you submit become part of the report record shared with the Agency. Please don’t include anything you don’t want shared with your local government.

Community mutual aid & chat

If you ask for or offer volunteer help, we store the request, who claimed it, the name/contact a Volunteer provides, and an optional email you give so we can notify you when your request is claimed (used only for that). When a request is claimed we open an in-app chat so neighbors can coordinate without exchanging phone numbers. Those chat messages are stored and attached to the event, and may be reviewed for safety or in response to a report— so please keep them civil and don’t share sensitive information. Pin311only connects neighbors and isn’t responsible for offline interactions; see the Terms.

Retention

Report and incident records are retained for the Agency’s recordkeeping and FEMA documentation needs. Mutual-aid chat logs are kept for a limited period for safety and then purged. Agencies may request deletion of records in their jurisdiction.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from alerts anytime (reply STOP or email us). For requests about your personal data, contact us and we’ll route it to the relevant Agency where applicable.

Children

The service isn’t directed to children and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
